RODEO READYING -- Helldorado crews are preparing for the 64th annual Helldorado Days. The Thomas & Mack Center is being transformed to handle the annual rodeo that is part of the celebration. Helldorado Days runs from Wednesday night through Saturday.Helldorado Days is sponsored by Elks Lodge 1468 and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

METRO CRASH -- Two Metro police cars were involved in an accident while pursuing a man suspected of reckless driving. The chase reached speeds of 90 mph and ended when two police cars crashed into a third car driven by the suspect.The two police officers were treated and released from University Medical Center.

MCDONALD'S SHOOTING -- A black male juvenile was in serious condition at the University Medical Center following a shooting outside of a McDonald's at 4215 Las Vegas Boulevard North. According to police the gunman walked up to the victim outside of the restaurant and fired three rounds from a .25-caliber weapon at the victim, hitting him once. Witnesses reported seeing the suspect, a black male, get into a maroon four-door vehicle, possibly a Ford, and leave the scene.

MURDER SUSPECT -- A suspect in the June 15 shooting death of 27-year-old David Threlkeld was arrested Sunday. Metro Police Sgt. Kevin Manning said Adrian Gerard Tillman, 36, was taken into custody on a murder warrant issued July 30. Threlkeld's body was found lying by a pay phone in the center of an apartment complex in the 3100 block of Wynn Road.

SEALE HONORED -- Nevada Treasurer Bob Seale and Mississippi Treasurer Marshal Bennett have been named the nation's most outstanding state treasurers by their national association. Seale was cited by the National Association of State Treasurers for his work in creating the National Public Finance Institute, which trains finance professionals, and for helping state college savings plans obtain tax advantages from Congress. The association, which made the announcement Monday, presented Seale with the 1998 Jesse Unruh Award for his service to the profession and to the association. Unruh was speaker of the California house and later served as treasurer in that state from 1975 to 1987.

MILLER EARNS AWARD -- Gov. Bob Miller has been honored by the National Governors Association for his "Family-to-Family" program, his office said Monday. The association, at its meeting in Milwaukee, presented him with the 1998 Building Block Award. The Family-to-Family project, authorized by the 1997 Legislature, has created 26 new baby centers to provide early childhood information to parents, offer training, and link parents to child care, health care and other resources.
