Victim’s mother wants prosecutors to file charges against accused killer’s friend

Saturday, Aug. 1, 1998 | 11:18 a.m.

"He is a murderer within himself," Yolanda Manuel, the dead girl's mother, said of David Cash Jr. It was Ms. Manuel's first public statement since the slaying of her daughter, Sherrice Iverson.

Ms. Manuel is being assisted in the signature-gathering effort by Najee Ali, director of the South-Central Los Angeles-based humanitarian group Project Islamic HOPE.

"Just as a parent, I felt outraged," Ali said.

They hope to collect 10,000 signatures in Southern California, he added.

Jeremy Strohmeyer, 19, is charged with the May 25, 1997 sexual assault and murder of Sherrice. The girl was found in a restroom at a hotel-casino in Primm, southwest of Las Vegas.

Strohmeyer, who had been visiting the casino with Cash and Strohmeyer's father, encountered Sherrice at the Primadonna, where the girl was killed, authorities said.

Cash, 19, of La Palma, is a key witness in the case. Strohmeyer has said Cash had nothing to do with the attack on the girl.
