Letter: Firing of North Las Vegas official is for greater good
Saturday, Aug. 1, 1998 | 4:12 a.m.
The worst thing would be for Mayor Michael Montandon and the council to back down, being intimidated by Hinson supporters such as the Rev. Jesse Scott, "special interest" groups and demagogues.
I contend such groups are detrimental to good government and stability. The time to stand up to them was long overdue. Therefore, I commend Montandon and the three council members who voted Hinson out. Only Councilman William Robinson supported Hinson.
Let's be honest. The "real" reason for Robinson's out-of-step contrariness is he's a Hinson partisan and would support her no matter what. Hinson, Robinson, Scott and their supporters should realize there's a "new paradigm" in operation. One that neither cowers nor kowtows to inflammatory rhetoric, intimidation and threats.
This time their reckless accusations, rantings and ravings will not succeed. Thank God. Their tyranny is now ending.
Also, only 30 residents showed up at the council meeting in support of Hinson. This pathetic turnout is ample proof that Hinson has no true support, even among her own constituents.
Las Vegas officials would do well to take lessons and stop being cowards with these divisive demagogues in our midst.
