Letter: Candidates shouldn’t be advertising on property along thoroughfares

Saturday, Aug. 1, 1998 | 4:13 a.m.

Do they have the owner's permission and are they paying for this advertising? Not long ago they banned the sale of autos on vacant lots and should do the same for advertising signs stating to vote for this one or that one. If they want to advertise, let them pay for and run an ad in the newspaper like everyone else does.

In addition, I do not think they should be permitted to advertise the sale of new homes along roadways. Half the time the signs are uprooted from the ground by the wind or blown into traffic, which could result in accidents or damage to vehicles.

I especially notice these signs posted nearly one on top of the other in the Green Valley area, which is not only hazardous to driving, but also an eyesore. Let's stop cluttering the cities with these advertising signs.
