Lander County ponders wastewater treatment plant

But little else is certain as the County Commission continues to ponder details.

The current plant is nearing its capacity and cannot property dispose of all the treated sewage, The Battle Mountain Bugle reported.

The cost to taxpayers of the new plant will depend on how much federal funding can be obtained for what is expected to be a multi-million-dollar project.

Also uncertain is what will be done with the treated effluent. It could be treated and stored in a wetlands area, treated in a wetlands area and discharged into the Reese and Humboldt rivers, discharged directly into the rivers or pumped into storage ponds for eventual reuse.
