BOULDER CITY -- The situation at home for any of the kids at St. Jude's Ranch for Children can cry out for a change. The ranch is there for them as it has been for those who need to put their lives of abuse and neglect behind them.

But when it comes down to actually doing something positive to make it healthier to live here, no one is in charge.
Letter: Animal Foundation didn't deserve any extra funding
Not only has AFI failed to collect $150,000 in fees due to shoddy bookkeeping and raised only about 3 percent of the amount needed to build the new shelter they agreed to, but its original bid to operate the city shelter is significantly higher than Dewey Animal Care's bid.

Columnist Bill Hanlon: Consultants paid too much; other experts are available
WE ARE IN the wrong business! I've been working hard selling math video tapes as a side business; what I should have done was hang out a shingle saying I am an educational consultant. That's where the bucks are!
Editorial: Workers' comp is healthy again
An independent audit of the State Industrial Insurance System found a $2.2 billion debt facing the agency that provides benefits for workers injured on the job. To put the debt into perspective, at the time its size was about the same as the state's two-year general fund budget. Where I Stand -- Brian Greenspun: It's tough not to worry while so much is going on
Ever since the big screen made that phrase a household endeavor, I have been trying to live those words. But to little avail. Just when I think there is a chance that worrying might give way to an unexpected degree of happiness, it is time to worry again.
