Obituaries for April 15, 1998

Louie Ayuste, 7, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. He was born April 21, 1990, in Las Vegas.

He is survived by his parents, Edward and Lisa Ayuste, one brother, Leo Ayuste, and his grandparents, Bert and Cathy Bangayan, and Nanay and Ama Ayuste, all of Las Vegas.

Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Palm Chapel, Jones. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

HENRY ROBERT BACZYNSKI

Henry Robert Baczynski, 82, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born Feb. 2, 1916, in Michigan. A resident for 1 1/2 years, he was an automotive designer.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda; three sons, Henry, John and Daniel; two daughters, Cheryl Greer and Lorraine; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

CONSUELO V. BATINOVICH

Consuelo V. Batinovich, 72, of Las Vegas, died Friday in a local hospital. She was born Nov. 1, 1925, in Tucson, Ariz. A resident for one year, she was a retired department store bookkeeper.

She is survived by her husband, George J. Sr. of Tucson; one son, George J. Batinovich Jr. of Las Vegas; three daughters, Christina Batinovich and Joanne Batinovich, both of Tucson, and Dianne Likewise of Corvallis, Ore.; three sisters, Julie Voss of Wisconsin, Alice Allen of Tempe, Ariz., and Sister Julian of Tucson; one brother, Tony Valdez of Tucson; and seven grandchildren.

CAROLE J. BEATTIE

Carole J. Beattie, 54, of Boulder City died Monday in Boulder City. She was born April 18, 1943, in Meyersdale, Pa. A resident for one year, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by one daughter, Georgene Kreger of Boulder City; her parents, George and Jenny Poorbaugh of Garrett, Pa.; two sisters, Sally Wingo of Garrett and Barbara Muzina of Peryopolis, Pa.; two brothers, Robert Poorbaugh of Garrett and Gary Poorbaugh of Columbia, S.C.; and two grandchildren.

MARION SNYDER BLIZZARD

Marion Snyder Blizzard, 76, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. She was born Nov. 28, 1921, in Paterson, N.J. A resident for 20 years, she was an accountant at Charleston Auto Parts.

She is survived by two sons, Thomas and Francis; one daughter, Phyllis; one brother, Thomas A. Snyder; one sister, Dorothy Narod; and three grandchildren.

Services will be 9 a.m. Friday in Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

G.R. BROWN

G.R. Brown, 48, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born Nov. 12, 1949, in Ohio. A resident for one year, he was a plumber, a Marine Corps veteran, a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Ohio, a member of the American Legion, Eagles and National Rifle Association.

He is survived by his wife, Penny; one son, Kelly Michael Brown; four daughters, Tracy Sue, Cassie, Chastity Marie Holdren and McAla Renea Holdren; his mother, Lucille Schott; and three brothers, Charles, James and Mathew.

Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

David W. Cessna, 50, of Henderson died Sunday in Henderson. He was born Sept. 12, 1947, in Pennsylvania. A resident for 11 years, he was an auto body repairman.

He is survived by his wife, Charlene; three daughters, Barbara of Niagara Falls, N.Y., and Bernice Fields and Brandi, both of Henderson; his father, David J. Cessna, and two brothers, Leonard and Bill, all of Pennsylvania; one sister, Carol Smith of Henderson; and four grandchildren.

Teresa Jane Cole, 45, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born May 6, 1952, in Howell, Mich. A resident for 38 years, she was a hairstylist.

She is survived by her husband, Danny; two sons, Christopher Goldstrom and Arthur Goldstrom, and one sister, Patricia Grant, all of Las Vegas; one brother, Richard Grant of Santa Monica, Calif.; and one grandchild.

A memorial service will be 7 p.m. Thursday in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. A private burial will follow.

A.C. 'DICK' CROOKS

A.C. "Dick" Crooks, 73, of Las Vegas died Thursday in a local hospital. He was born Dec. 15, 1924, in Huntsville, Texas. A resident for 45 years, he was a retired laborer and an usher at Second Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Clydrine; four daughters, Tanza Galloway, Margo Crooks, Lorie Simpson and Maya Branch, three sons, Alex C. Crooks III, Jimmy Hights and Brandon Hardy, and one brother, George Crooks, all of Las Vegas; numerous other relatives and friends; and six grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Second Baptist Church. Burial will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

COURTNEY CURRY JR.

Courtney Curry Jr., 55, of Las Vegas died Thursday in Las Vegas. He was born Nov. 14, 1942, in Waldo, Ark. A resident for 41 years, he was a general laborer.

He is survived by one daughter, Candorlyn Jones of San Bernardino, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

Visitation was scheduled 11 a.m.-noon today in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St., followed by graveside services in Palm Memorial Park.

HARVEY EDWARDS

Harvey Edwards, 56, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born Oct. 30, 1941, in Blytheville, Ark. A resident for four years, he was a retired automobile mechanic and a Vietnam War Army and Marine Corps veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Beth; two daughters, Carolyn Murga of Bayside, Colo., and Joann Anderson of Springfield, Ill.; two sons, Harvey L. Edwards and Randy L. Edwards, both of Las Vegas; one sister, Carolyn Hoffman of Kenner, La.; and eight grandchildren.

ANTHONY R. EUNICE

Anthony R. Eunice, 70, of Las Vegas died April 7 in Las Vegas. He was born May 14, 1927, in Newark, N.J. A resident for many years, he was a boiler supervisor at the Veterans Administration Hospital and a Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Savilla; two sons, David and Gregory; one daughter, Beaches; and one brother, Elmo.

Services will be 8:30 a.m. Thursday in Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Graveside services will be 10:45 a.m. Thursday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

ABRAHAM GOLDMAN

Abraham Goldman, 72, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born Feb. 24, 1926, in New York. A resident for 10 years, he was a musician and an Army veteran.

He is survived by one brother, Louis Goldman, and one sister, Ida Kurtz, both of New York.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

LOIS J. HALL

Lois J. Hall, 82, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. She was born Dec. 5, 1915, in Nova Scotia. A resident for 18 years, she was a retired railroad clerk after 37 years of service.

She is survived by her husband, John T.; one brother, Calvin McIntosh, and one sister, Gladys Sito, both of California.

Visitation is scheduled 2-7 p.m. Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in St. Viators Catholic Church. Burial will be private.

ERNESTO JOSE LOPEZ

Ernesto Jose Lopez, 48, of North Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. He was born Aug. 31, 1949, in Arizona. A resident for 31 years, he was a laborer and an Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Judith; one son, Vicent, his father, Vincente Lopez, and one brother, Larry Lopez, all of Las Vegas; and three sisters, Ida Valencia and Mary Garcia, both of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Florida Lava of Las Vegas.

Visitation is scheduled noon until a 5 p.m. prayer service Thursday in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Bunkers Chapel. Burial will follow in Eden Vale Memorial Park.

OSVALDO S. MONTANO

Osvaldo S. Montano, 79, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospice. He was born March 10, 1919, in Cordoba, Argentina. A resident for 20 years and a proud U.S. citizen for three years, he was a former employee at the MGM Grand (Bally's) from 1978-1988 and an advertising company owner-operator.

He is survived by his wife, Alicia; two sons, Osvaldo Montano and Ariel Montano, and three grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

LYNN RAYMOND

Lynn Raymond, 78, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. She was born April 7, 1920, in Oklahoma City. A resident for 29 years, she was a homemaker and had been prominent in social circles in San Diego for many years.

She is survived by one son, David A. Kimball Sr. of Las Vegas; and two grandchildren.

Visitation was scheduled one hour prior to a 3 p.m. rosary today in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Burial will be private.

The family suggests contributions to the Catholic charity of the donor's choice.

ERNEST RAY ROACH

Ernest Ray Roach, 69, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born Oct. 17, 1928, in Magic City, Texas. A resident for seven years, he was a security officer and a World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War Army veteran.

He is survived by one daughter, Faith Roach of Santa Monica, Calif.; and one sister, Billie Glover of Story, Wyo.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Elsie Sarvis, 85, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local health care center. She was born April 15, 1912, in Congo, Ohio. A resident for 24 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, William; one daughter, Janice Kurzy of Las Vegas; one son, Larry Sarvis of Perry, Ohio; one brother, Bert Sepos of Massillon, Ohio; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services were private. Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., handled arrangements.

MARTIN MORRIS SCHIFFMAN

Martin Morris Schiffman, 71, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born Nov. 7, 1926, in New York. A resident for eight years, he was a casino promotion clerk.

He is survived by his wife, Irene; four sons, Dr. Robert Schiffman of Indiana, Jeffrey Schiffman and Paul Schiffman, both of Florida, and Alan Schiffman of New York; and five grandchildren.

ROSALIE FRANCIS THERIOT

Rosalie Francis Theriot, 59, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born Nov. 2, 1938, in Altoona, Pa. A resident for 22 years, she was a paralegal/administrator.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph; one son, Darin McCuistion; two daughters, Gina Marie Fisher and Theresa Francis Ickes; her parents, Pasquale and Lilly Colabove; one brother, William Colabove; one sister, Linda Cowan; and seven grandchildren.

TERRY E. WELLER

Terry E. Weller, 56, of Henderson died Monday. He was born Dec. 30, 1941, in Santa Monica, Calif. A resident for 45 years, he was a plumber/pipe fitter in the construction industry, a lifelong member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, a member of Nevada Service Employees Union/SEIU Local 1107, attended grade school at St. Peter's Catholic Church and graduated from Basic High School in 1959.

He is survived by one daughter, Trudi Ashworth of Henderson; one son, Tony Weller of Las Vegas; and one grandson.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday in St. Peter's. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Park, Henderson. Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

Hugh Howard Walters, 94, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born Feb. 24, 1901, in Oregon. A resident for four years, he was a postmaster.

He is survived by his wife, Toni Lee; and one brother, George Walters of California.

Visitation is scheduled 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. services Saturday in Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson. A private burial will follow.

PHYLLIS J. WHITLOCK

Phyllis J. Whitlock, 73, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. She was born Oct. 14, 1924, in Fisher, Ill. A resident for 44 years, she was a homemaker, a member of the Eastern Star, American Red Cross and Gold Star Mothers Club.

She is survived by her husband, J.T.; one son, Ted J. Whitlock; one daughter, Donna Marie Whitlock, and one brother, Robert Sheppard, both of Las Vegas.

MARY A. WILLIAMS

Mary A. Williams, 80, of Henderson died Tuesday in Las Vegas. A resident of Henderson for three years and a former resident of Pahrump for 18 years, she was born March 17, 1918, in New Mexico.

She is survived by her husband, John; four daughters, Stella McCray of Henderson, Marcy Barstow of Memphis, Miss., Mary Ann Jeter of Dickerson, Texas, and Rita Shephard of Aurora, Colo.; two sons, Samuel Williams of Henderson and Geno Williams of Aurora; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 5-7 p.m. Thursday in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Paradise Memorial Gardens.

GREGORY A. ZIPPMAN

Gregory A. Zippman, 45, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born Dec. 22, 1952, in California. A resident for 41 years, he was a golf course maintenance worker at the Las Vegas Country Club for 16 years.

He is survived by his mother, Nancy J. Zippman; and one sister, Cynthia Godfrey.
