Chavez vs. Gonzalez postponed

The WBC title fight had been scheduled for Oct. 25 in Mexico City.

"I feel bad, but I cannot step into the ring unless I am 100 percent physically ready," Chavez said Monday.

Chavez injured his left elbow on Friday and was to undergo surgery Monday in his hometown of Culiacan, Mexico. This is the second operation Chavez has had on the elbow this year.

"It's unfortunate," said Jose Sulaiman, WBC president. "Julio said he first hurt his elbow when he slipped and fell on a rock while running on the beach. He then reinjured the elbow on Friday."

Six-time world champion Chavez (100-2-1, 83 KOs) and Gonzalez (42-1, 32 KOs) are the top two ranked super lightweights in the WBC. The WBC 140-pound title is currently vacant.
