Man arrested for killing neighbors’ dog

George Frederick Voit was charged with intentionally shooting an animal and discharging a firearm in a grossly negligent manner.
According to police, "Porsche," a 3-year-old Australian shepherd and chow mix, knocked Voit's girlfriend down and then attacked one of her dogs.
Porsche's owners, Richard and Lisa Abbott, weren't at home at the time. Lisa Abbott's mother, Carolyn Christensen, was at the home with her 2-year-old granddaughter when Voit twice drove by, threatening to kill the dog if it wasn't taken inside.
Christensen said she was trying to catch the dog when Voit returned a third time and fired two shots from a 44-magnum revolver, hitting the dog and then speeding away.
Voit posted $7,500 bail and was released Wednesday. On Thursday, Voit said on the advice of his attorney he couldn't comment on the charges.
"It was like a drive-by shooting," said Lisa Abbott, adding that in her almost three years in the neighborhood there have been no complaints about either of her family's two dogs.
"What he did was just too harsh," Richard Abbott added. "There was a better way to handle it."
