Drug bust nets pot harvest

Agents with the Nevada Division of Investigation uprooted 118 mature marijuana plants in a remote area of Elko County on Thursday just as a Battle Mountain man showed up, allegedly to do a little harvesting of his own.
Steve Lee Smith, 43, is in the Elko County jail for investigation of drug cultivation and trafficking. He's being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
The pot plants were growing on public land near Midas. Agents said some of them had stalks 2 1/2 inches in diameter.
