UNR considers actions against fraternity accused of stealing trees

Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1997 | 9:23 a.m.

"Our options include everything from doing nothing to banishing them," said David Hanse, UNR assistant vice president of student development.

Seven members of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity were arrested last week for the damage done at Rancho San Rafael Park. They are accused of raiding the park to decorate the fraternity house for a party.

Each was booked for investigation of grand larceny, destruction of property and possession of stolen property.

County officials say at least $10,000 worth of trees, shrubs and vines were destroyed. Many of the trees were planted as memorials.

The fraternity issued a public apology on Friday and pledged community service work to make up for its misdeed.
