Rattazzi resigns from Ely City Council
Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1997 | 6:16 a.m.
Chachas, who chairs the White Pine County Fair and Recreation Board, said Rattazzi has missed te least 14 meetings. He said he has lost track of the number of Council meetings Rattazzi has failed to attend.
He said Rattazzi's poor attendance caused a hardship during the budget review because of his absences. He also accused Rattazzi of deliberately staying away from some Council meetings to thwart a possible personnel session regarding City Attorney Dave Olsen, whom he supports.
"We need someone with a real, true interest in the community," Chachas told the Ely Daily Times.
Rattazzi joined the Council in June 1995. His term runs through June 1999.
He launched an unsuccessful petition drive to recall Charlie Basso, Georgiann Timko and Dorothy Phillips after they supported Chachas' appointment to the Council in February.
Chachas and Basso got the voters' hook in June, Timko and Phillips beat the recall effort in court, although Timko did not seek re-election.
Mayor Jack Smith said a successor could be names as early as the Sept. 25 meeting. He added that Rattazzi's attendance was good until April, but dropped off sharply because he was working 12-hour shifts at the mine on Thursdays, the day the Council meets, and had not been able to get his shift changed.
