Developer has 60 days to save Mapes hotel plan

The issue boils down to money. Officials estimate it would cost anywhere from $7 million to nearly $10 million to make the building earthquake safe.
Last week, the City Council entered an agreement with OliverMcMillan to revamp the downtown area. The city turned over to the developer 2 1/2 blocks along the Truckee River for redevelopment.
Plans calls for a movie theater complex, shops and restaurants to be built.
