Company offers to represent Paula Jones for free in IRS audit
Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1997 | 3:36 a.m.
Robert Bennington, president of the National Audit Defense Network, said he called Jones Tuesday to make the offer.
"She said she would let us know," Bennington said. "She had six or seven other calls waiting."
Bennington said it was rare that the IRS would audit someone with less than $40,000 annual income, little owned property and an unemployed wife.
But he said he also couldn't believe the Clinton administration would be "so silly as to force an audit."
Mrs. Jones and her husband, Stephen, received notice from the IRS last week that they would be audited for their 1995 tax return, according to her adviser, Susan Carpenter McMillan.
