Man sought in connection to murder found dead

Friday, Sept. 12, 1997 | 10:07 a.m.

A man whom Metro Police were looking for Thursday to question about a murder was found dead hours later, police said.

Alfredo Silva was found about 10 a.m. Thursday shot to death next to a marsh on Emerald Avenue between Stephanie Street and Boulder Highway, police said. A tow truck driver spotted the man's body in the marsh about 18 inches from the roadway, police said.

He had been shot three times in his upper torso while on his knees, police said.

"Homicide investigators believe the victim was taken to that location and shot to death," homicide Sgt. Bill Keeton said. "The victim is believed to have been killed last night or this morning."

Identification was found on the victim, he said.

The first murder occurred at 2:15 a.m. Thursday at the Sun State Apartments at 410 S. First St.

"We're investigating as to whether this is a second victim from the murder this morning on First Street," Keeton said.

At that homicide scene, a 32-year-old Las Vegas man was found shot to death inside an apartment. Police say the murder was drug-related. The investigation into the shooting "hints of drug activity inside the room," Keeton said. The victim's name has not been released pending notification of his family.

Silva, a Cuban immigrant, was the tenant of that apartment, but was not at home when officers arrived, Keeton said. Witnesses told police they saw two to three men running from the complex, but Silva was probably not one of them, Keeton said.
