The nationally syndicated "Cops" reality TV show will be featuring some local officers in action.
Producers with "Cops," based in Santa Monica, Calif., spent about five months in Las Vegas riding along with Metro officers, said department spokesman Phil Roland. They also rode with North Las Vegas Police.
"Cops" episodes starring local officers, starting Saturday, feature a bike sting set up by a Southeast Area Command team, according to Maria Remiro-Jordan, associate producer of "Cops." A monthlong sting using a $1,000 bike patrol mountain bike placed in a bike rack at Albertson's supermarket on Tropicana Avenue an Nellis Boulevard in June netted members of a burglary and theft ring, as well as career criminals, said Capt. Terri Lesney.
Also on the first show, officers from the northwest substation appear in segments titled "No Tolerance" and "Son of a Gun."
The following Saturday, Sept. 20, the show features Metro corrections officers at the Clark County Detention Center in their day-to-day operations. Also, officers from the southeast and northeast substation are featured in separate segments the same night.
Shows featuring North Las Vegas Police in action will air Sept. 27 and Oct. 11.
"Cops" is broadcast locally at 8 p.m. Saturday on KVVU Channel 5.
Future dates for shows with Metro and North Las Vegas police appearing have not yet been announced, Remiro-Jordan said.
