Book signings around town

John Ridley, author of "Stray Dogs," will sign copies of his book at 2 p.m. Saturday at Borders, 2190 N. Rainbow. Blvd.

Ridley, a scriptwriter and director, has written a fast-paced novel filled with unrelenting tension, shocking twists of plot and surprise elements of dark humor.

Gloria King, poet and the author of "Imperfections of Eden," will sign copies of her book of poetry at 7 p.m. Sept. 18.

Since 1979, Lynn Johnston's Patterson clan -- Elly, John, Michael, Lizzie and now April -- has charmed readers in her popular strip, "For Better of For Worse." The strip is carried by more than 1,600 newspapers in Canada, the United States and 21 other countries.

Johnston will sign copies of her books at 2 p.m. Sept. 21 at Borders on Rainbow. Among the titles available are "Starting From Scratch," "There Goes My Baby," "Remembering Farley," "Love Just Screws Everything Up" and "It's the Thought That Counts."

Rabbi Simon Jacobson, author of "Toward a Meaningful Life: The Wisdom of the Rebbe," will speak and sign copies of his book at 3 p.m. Sept. 28 at Borders on Rainbow. Jacobson's appearance is cosponsored by Chabad of Southern Nevada.

"Toward a Meaningful Life: The Wisdom of the Rebbe" draws on ancient spiritual teachings to help people who are thirsting for a more fulfilling life to find clarity, purpose and inner joy. It is an adaptation and distillation of the works of the Grand Lubavitcher Rebbe, Menachem Mendel Schneerson.
