Police find suspect’s car at Lake Mead
Tuesday, Sept. 9, 1997 | 9:53 a.m.
A double murder suspect's car was found abandoned at Lake Mead, but the suspect was still at large today, Metro Police said.
His sailboat, which he kept at Lake Mead, is also missing, police said.
Robert Rowe, 53, is wanted in the fatal shooting Sunday evening of his wife and stepson, police said.
National Park Service rangers found Rowe's car about 5 p.m. Monday at the Lake Mead Marina.
Bradley Schweitzer, 33, and his mother, Jeanette Rowe, 59, were found dead in their home at 3457 Red Rock St., near Jones Boulevard and Spring Mountain Road, by patrol officers called to the home by neighbors who heard an argument.
Police believe Rowe may be armed and dangerous. The murder weapon, a 9mm revolver, was not recovered at the scene.
Rowe allegedly shot his stepson because of his drug use and his wife because she protected him, police said.
"He was tired of the drug use and the mother taking his side," a police source said. "He snapped that day."
National Park Service rangers were scanning the lake Monday night and today using airplanes, police said. A sailboat is more conspicuous than a power boat, investigators said.
