She said she would finish the school year in her current post and return to teaching in the university's College of Education in fall 1998.
Miltenberger also served as a vice president at Santa Rosa, Calif., Junior College and Truckee Meadows Community College.
UNR President Joe Crowley said she was once the highest-ranking woman in Nevada's higher education system. Carol Harter, president of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, now holds that distinction.
