This Week’s Football Picks|
Thursday, Oct. 30, 1997 | 11:53 a.m.
GREEN VALLEY (6-3) at CHEYENNE (7-2)
THE MATCHUP: Green Valley lost last two to go from first in the Sunrise to a road playoff game. Jamar Glasper is finally 100 percent for the Gators tonight and will figure prominently in their plans. Cheyenne rebounded from big loss to Cimarron to defeat Western last week, securing the No. 2 seed.
THE PICK: Cheyenne 35, Green Valley 15
ELDORADO (5-4) at CIMARRON-MEMORIAL (8-1)
THE MATCHUP: Eldorado won last three to qualify for the postseason and is a great story, but the Sundevils probably don't have enough to handle Cimarron. The Spartans can run and pass and didn't finish undefeated only because of a double-overtime loss to Western.
THE PICK: Cimarron 38, Eldorado 14
DURANGO (6-3) at CHAPARRAL (5-4)
THE MATCHUP: Cowboys are riding high, winning five of their last six games; Durango has won last two. Two good offenses meet although Chaparral has been more consistent since season-opening shutout. Both programs are on the rise and each wants to prove it's among the elite.
THE PICK: Chaparral 28, Durango 27
WESTERN (6-3) at VALLEY (6-3)
THE MATCHUP: It's the Valley offensive show against Western's tough defense. Warriors can't let Dion Jackson and his cohorts run wild or it'll be a long night. Western wants to use its ball-control offense to keep Jackson off the field but the Warriors have struggled to put points on the board. If the Valley defense doesn't duplicate its performance of last week, the Vikings will be in trouble.
THE PICK: Valley 21, Western 12
