LV’s Smith wins fight

Las Vegan Lonnie Smith, a former WBC junior welterweight champion, stopped Mexican Francisco Barra in the second round of their scheduled 12-round welterweight fight Wednesday night at the San Diego Sports Arena. Smith, who weighed 145 pounds, dazed Barra with a right, then followed with a left uppercut that sent Barra sprawling to the canvas at 46 seconds of the round. The 34-year-old Smith improved his record to 41-5-2, with 25 knockouts. Barra is 11-10, with nine KOs. Barra, 21, weighed 143 1/2 .
