Orlando Solar Bears 2, Michigan K-Wings 1

ORLANDO--Hubie McDonough's goal at 16:38 of the second period gave the Orlando Solar Bears a 2-1 win over the Michigan K-Wings Wednesday at the Orlando Arena. The win, Orlando's fourth straight, moves the Solar Bears (5-3-1) into a tie with Detroit at the top of the IHL's Northeast Division. Dave Chyzowski broke a scoreless tie and gave the Solar Bears a 1-0 lead with a power play goal 10:30 into the second stanza. The K-Wings (4-4-1) outshot Orlando 27-20, but only John Emmons beat goalie Scott LaGrand, at 5:07 of the third period. LaGrand finished with 26 saves. Jordan Willis stopped 18 in goal for the K-Wings, who extended their winless streak to three.

Cincinnati Cyclones 4, Quebec Rafales 3 (SO)

CINCINNATI--The Cincinnati Cyclones (5-2-2) scored on three of four shootout attempts to snatch a 4-3 win from the Quebec Rafales (4-3-2) Wednesday in front of 5,244 at The Crown. Gilbert Dionne, Don Biggs and Todd Simon scored for the Cyclones in the tiebreaker. Dionne also scored on a third period power play. Mike Casselman scored with 14 seconds left to tie the score 3-3 and send the game to the shootout. Jeff Wells also scored, in the second period, to start the Cyclones' comeback from an early 2-0 deficit. Quebec's Marc Rodgers led all scorers with a pair of first-period goals. Christian Campeau also scored for the Rafales in regulation, while Michel Mongeau and Jason Ruff converted in the shootout. Geoff Sarjeant was in goal for the Cyclones, who are unbeaten in their last six games. He faced 21 shots and made 18 saves. Quebec's Frederick Deschesne turned away 25 of 28.

Grand Rapids Griffins 4, Chicago Wolves 2

ROSEMONT, Ill.--The Grand Rapids Griffins (5-4-0) scored two third-period goals, including Michel Picard's game-winner at 16:33, on their way to a 4-2 win over the Chicago Wolves (6-3-1) Wednesday before 5,310 at the Rosemont Horizon. Picard's goal, his third of the season, was the Griffins' second power play tally of the game, after a second-period conversion by defenseman Kerry Huffman. Danton Cole scored Grand Rapids' first goal of the game, and Marc Greig capped the win with an empty-netter in the final minute. Center Jeff Bes scored three minutes after the opening faceoff to give the Wolves their only lead of the game. Griffins goalie Ian Gordon, who finished with 40 saves, recovered to shut the Midwest Division leaders out until the third period, when Chris Marinucci scored to tie the score 2-2. Ray LeBlanc faced 25 shots for Chicago, stopping 22.

San Antonio Dragons 6, Cleveland Lumberjacks 5

SAN ANTONIO--A shorthanded goal by Scott Hollis at 12:32 of the third period gave the San Antonio Dragons a 6-5 win over the Cleveland Lumberjacks Wednesday at Freeman Coliseum. The win was the Dragons' first in five starts, and boosted their record to 4-5-2. The deciding goal was Hollis' second of the game, and gave him a league-leading 13 in 11 games. Kimbi Daniels, Louis DeBrusk and Reggie Savage scored for the Dragons in the first period, and Jason MacIntyre added a second-period tally. Savage and Grigori Panteleyev each recorded a pair of assists. The Jacks (4-4-2) also scored three times in the first period, starting with Brad Lauer's goal in the seventh minute. Jock Callander and Rusty Fitzgerald also scored before the intermission. Eric Perrin and Jason McBain finished the Cleveland scoring, both in the second period. Winning goalie Bruce Racine stopped 28 of the Jacks' 32 shots. Cleveland's Mike Tamburro made 33 saves on 39 chances.

Manitoba Moose 7, Kansas City Blades 2

KANSAS CITY--Greg Pankewicz scored four goals to lead the manitoba Moose (5-5-0) past the Kansas City Blades (4-6-0) Wednesday in front of 3,157 at Kemper Arena. Pankewicz scored his first on a power play at 15:34 of the first period. He also scored once in the second and twice in the third. Mark Fearns collected a goal and an assist for the Moose, and Brett Punchard and Randy Gilhen added single goals. Mark Kolesar assisted on three Manitoba tallies, Brett Hauer on two. The Blades trailed 3-0 when Darin Kimble scored the first goal of the second period. Shawn Heins also scored for KC. Fred Brathwaite turned away 29 of 31 Kansas City shots to post the win. Jeff Salajko made 14 saves on 18 chances for the Blades.

Long Beach Ice Dogs 6, MILWAUKEE ADMIRALS 2

LONG BEACH, Calif.--Shawn Penn scored twice to lead the Long Beach Ice Dogs (9-5-1) to an easy 6-2 win over the Milwaukee Admirals (6-4-0) Wednesday in front of 2,742 at Long Beach Arena. The victory gave the Ice Dogs sole possession of first place in the Southwest Division, two points ahead of the Utah Grizzlies. Penn also scored one of the Ice Dogs' two shorthanded goals, the other coming from Darryl Williams in the first period. Russ Romaniuk had a goal and an assist for the Ice Dogs. Mike Matteucci and Claude Jutras added third period goals, and Doug Ast had two assists. Shannon Finn and Steve Tuttle scored for the Admirals, who have lost their last three. Kay Whitmore was in goal for the Ice Dogs' fourth straight win, facing 27 shots and making 25 saves. Mike Torchia suffered the loss, finishing with 17 saves on 23 Long Beach attempts.
