Growth issues to be studied in public health conference

The Nevada Public Health Association annual meeting opens Oct. 28 at the Orleans hotel-casino.
Former Gov. Mike O'Call-aghan, now Las Vegas SUN executive editor, will give the keynote address.
Dr. Otto Ravenholt, Clark County's chief health officer for almost 34 years, will moderate a panel discussion with state Sens. Dina Titus and Ray Rawson, Assemblyman David Goldwater, County Commissioner Yvonne Atkinson-Gates, Boulder City Mayor Bob Ferraro and UNLV history professor Hal Rothman.
The panel discuss growth issues as they affect the quality of life in the Las Vegas Valley.
The conference will cover welfare reform, recent state legislation affecting health care, Medicaid changes, student issues, the Maternal Child Health Coalition of Nevada, disaster management and domestic terrorism.
Dr. Barry S. Levy, president of the American Public Health Association of Washington, D.C., will close the conference with a discussion of national issues.
