Letter: Doctor wouldn’t respond to patient on steroids; she died
Saturday, Oct. 11, 1997 | 7:58 a.m.
If one has a knowledgeable, compassionate, sympathetic doctor, one is very fortunate. If you do not, you are in danger. My sister-in-law was not very fortunate.
After her last visit to her doctor, she became very ill from the steroids. She phoned the doctor day after day to speak to him and left messages. She called, I called, her husband called. We left messages with a Miss Toughie in the office. We made more than 30 calls in about 25 days. This doctor did not respond to one, didn't even pick up the phone to see if he could help. You never know what that one phone call would have done. She died on the 26th day.
This is sheer, mean, callous, arrogant neglect. Some doctors play God, passing out medications they don't know enough about. Then, when you need them, they ignore you. This is a very sad situation my sister-in-law was only 50 years old.
