Remember summer? Forget it, for now

Summer apparently is fading into winter without a pause for fall in the Sierra.
A winter storm watch has been posted for the Lake Tahoe area above the 8,000-foot level through today and continuing into Thursday as what forecasters are calling the first major squall of the season pushes wind and snow over the mountains.
Light snow was expected to begin falling around 7,000 feet, becoming heavy at times by afternoon as the snow level rises to 8,000 feet.
The snow level will remain around 8,000 feet into Thursday with snow accumulations of a foot at the higher elevations by daybreak Thursday, the National Weather Service said.
Gusty winds will accompany the storm into the weekend as temperatures gradually drop from highs in the upper 50s and 60s with lows in the 30s to highs on Friday in the 50s and lows in the 20s to the low 30s.
