Letter: SUN writers praised for courage, sincerity, talent

Saturday, Oct. 4, 1997 | 6:40 a.m.

Brian Greenspun's article on the Taxicab Authority and its political lampreys: courageous. Bill Hanlon's bittersweet words on the loss of a loved one: sincere. Scott Dickensheets' article on activists Lewis and Jensen: talented.

The first two appellations are evident, the Dickensheets effort perhaps more subtle. Dickensheets handled a subject less than compelling with unbiased creativity and with an accuracy that reached behind facts. I've never met Lewis or Jensen. Now I feel I know them better than I know my next-door neighbors.

A writer's "bank account" isn't counted in coin. It consists of phrases, anecdotes and word combinations. The writer "spends" these bits of himself on readers. Las Vegas and the Las Vegas SUN are fortunate: Dickensheets is truly one of this town's big spenders.
