Letter: Value of marsh in LV Wash in sewage cleanup downplayed

Saturday, Nov. 29, 1997 | 3:59 a.m.

Five years of intensive monitoring by Dr. Deacon and his staff at UNLV (1972-1976) showed that the marsh in the Las Vegas Wash removed 100 percent of the ammonia and 90 percent of total nitrogen.

The Clark County Sanitation District has always downplayed the value of the marsh for cleaning up the sewage waste water discharged into Las Vegas Wash. Karafa's understatement is a typical example.
