UNLV sophomore Jeremy Anderson shot a final-round 4-under-par 68 Sunday to capture his first career victory in the prestigious 18-team GolfWorld Invitational at Hilton Head, S.C.
Anderson, who became the first UNLV individual champion since Bill Lunde won the Taylor Made/Big Island Intercollegiate last year, shot a tournament-low 7-under 65 for the second round to take a decisive three-stroke advantage into Sunday's final round. Anderson, who finished 13-under (70-65-68--203), was four strokes ahead of runner-up David Christensen of East Tennessee State.
The Rebels (280-289-290--859) placed second as a team, finishing seven shots behind Texas Christian. Clemson was third at 862, followed by Houston (865) and Arizona and East Tennessee State (both 867).
UNLV was supported by Lunde who finished in a tie for 20th at even-par 216. Junior Charley Hoffman tied for 47th at 222, freshman Scott Lander tied for 61st at 224 and junior Chris Berry tied for 76th at 229.
