Three separate house fires on Sunday sent three Las Vegans to the hospital, among them a 5-year-old girl burned over 15 percent of her body after a fire started in her bedroom.
Clark County investigators were speculating whether another youngster in the mobile home at 3725 E. Lake Mead Blvd. may have accidentally ignited the 6:46 a.m. fire with matches and lighter fluid.
The girl, whose name was not released, remained overnight in serious but stable condition at University Medical Center's burn unit, a nursing supervisor said.
An 84-year-old woman and another woman in her 30s were recovering today after suffering smoke inhalation from a fire that broke out about 1 p.m. inside their eastern Las Vegas home at 1414 Lynn Lane, near Bonanza Road and Christy Lane.
Investigators determined that a cigarette left on a bed set some clothes on fire, said Steve La-Sky, spokesman for the Las Vegas Fire Department. The house sustained about $5,000 in damage.
A cigarette was also blamed for starting a 2 p.m. fire at 4621 Powell Ave., near Lamb Boulevard and Harmon Avenue, that caused an estimated $25,000 in damage.
La-Sky said one of the occupants of the home had dropped the cigarette into a trash can. No injuries were reported.
