Here's a capsule look at UNLV's four early basketball signees:
SHAWN MARION
Year-Pos. -- Sophomore forward-guard.
Height-Weight -- 6-foot-7, 205 pounds.
School -- Vincennes (Ind.) University (Dan Sparks, coach).
Hometown -- Clarksville, Tenn.
Stats of note -- 23.3 ppg, 12.8 rpg.
Honors -- Regarded as top J.C. prospect in the nation; 2nd Team JC All-America; Team MVP. Led Vincennes to national JC tournament (6th place finish).
Strengths -- Versatile player, compared to Scottie Pippen. Excellent defender who can also create own offense. Projected at UNLV -- Likely starter at wing forward. Can also play power forward or shooting guard.
DESMOND HEROD
Year-Pos. -- Senior guard.
Height-Weight -- 6-foot-4, 190 pounds.
School -- Adelphi Academy, Brooklyn, N.Y. (Joe McMahon, coach).
Hometown -- Brooklyn, N.Y.
Stats of note -- 32.0 ppg, 12.0 rpg.
Honors -- Led school to New York State Class 'B' semifinals. Top 50 player at adidas ABCD camp. One of best players in New York City.
Strengths -- Tremendous range as shooter. Can also finish strong going to basket.
Projected at UNLV -- Will play shooting guard spot.
CHRIS RICHARDSON
Year-Pos. -- Senior forward.
Height-Weight -- 6-foot-7, 185 pounds.
School -- Mary Carroll High School, Corpus Christi, Texas (Bobby Taylor, coach).
Hometown -- Corpus Christi, Texas.
Stats of note -- 22.2 ppg, 12.8 rpg.
Honors -- All-South Texas selection; starred at Nike Camp in Indianapolis. Considered one of the top players in Texas.
Strengths -- Excellent rebounder with great quickness. Has good range on jump shot.
Projected at UNLV -- Can play either forward spot.
MATT SIEBRANDT
Year-Pos. -- Senior forward.
Height-Weight -- 6-foot-8, 225 pounds.
School -- Galena High School, Reno (Tom Maurer, coach).
Hometown -- Reno.
Stats of note -- 9.0 ppg, 6.2 rpg.
Honors -- Helped lead Galena to Nevada State 4A championship game.
Strengths -- Hard-nosed competitor who is not afraid to do the dirty work. Was impressive during summer campaign after missing most of high school season with a knee injury.
Projected at UNLV -- Backup power forward.
