Search for man missing for almost a year no over
Thursday, Nov. 13, 1997 | 9:17 a.m.
The Douglas County sheriff's office confirmed on Wednesday that human remains found along the east fork of the Carson River south of Gardnerville are those of Fred Pinard, who vanished into the river Jan. 2 while trying to reinforce a river bank near a mobile home park.
A ranch hand working on the Settlemeyer Ranch found a skull and one other large bone on the property near the river Tuesday while cutting wood. Dental records confirm that the victim is Pinard.
The sheriff's office said the remains were found near where Pinard, who was working on a front-end loader, toppled into the river.
Search dogs from Reno and California will be called in to look for additional remains of the flooding victim.
