Las Vegas Thunder 7, Indianapolis Ice 1
INDIANAPOLIS--Jesse Belanger had two goals and an assist to lead the Las Vegas Thunder past the Indianapolis Ice 7-1 Friday at Market Square Arena. The Thunder (7-5-1) have scored 15 goals in their last two games, six of them by Belanger. Rob Pattison also scored twice against the Ice, both times in the Thunder's five-goal first period. Ken Quinney and Joe Day added a goal and an assist apiece, and Rhett Trombley had a goal. Patrice Lefebvre picked up three assists to move past Detroit's Peter Ciavaglia and into the IHL scoring lead. Defenseman Glen Featherstone scored the lone goal for Indianapolis, with a assist from Alfie Turcotte in the first period. Winning goalie Tim Cheveldae stopped all 22 of the shots he faced after entering the game in relief of starter Manny Legace at 9:41 of the first period. Legace turned away five of six. Indianapolis starter Kory Cooper lasted two periods, facing 21 shots and making 15 saves to suffer the loss. Jani Hurme stopped three of the Thunder's four third period shots.
Quebec Rafales 3, Michigan K-Wings 2 (SO)
KALAMAZOO, Mich.--Jason Ruff tied the score with 18 seconds to play, and Steve Larouche and Greg Schmidt to give the Quebec Rafales (5-3-2) a 3-2 win over the Michigan K-Wings (4-4-2) Friday at Wings Stadium. The victory ended a four-game slide for the Rafales, and extended the K-Wings' winless streak to four. Quebec's Mark Rodgers scored the first goal of the game, on a power play at 8:09 of the first period. He also assisted, along with Michel Mongeau, on Ruff's last-minute tally. The first period ended in a 1-1 tie, after Derrick Smith scored on a power play with seconds remaining. Chris Tancill, who also scored Michigan's lone shootout goal, gave the K-Wings their only lead of the game, 10:09 into the final stanza. Goalie Tom Draper made 23 saves on 25 Michigan shots to post the win. Michigan netminder Manny Fernandez stopped 24 of 26 in regulation.
Cincinnati Cyclones 2, Fort Wayne Komets 1
FORT WAYNE, Ind.--Steve King scored 44 seconds into the second period to give the Cincinnati Cyclones (5-4-3) a 2-1 win over the Fort Wayne Komets (5-5-0) Friday at Memorial Coliseum. Dan Biggs gave the Central Division-leading Cyclones a 1-0 lead with a power play goal in the first period. Cincinnati has won four straight, and hasn't suffered a regulation loss in their last seven starts. Goalie Todd MacDonald made 18 of his 25 saves in the first two periods to keep the Komets off the board. Guy Dupuis spoiled the shutout at 15:13 of the third, with assists from Ian Boyce and Robin Bawa. Fort Wayne goalie Richard Shulmistra faced only 17 shots, and made 15 saves.
Houston Aeros 3, San Antonio Dragons 1
SAN ANTONIO--Brian Wiseman scored twice, including the game-winner at 18:05 of the second period, to lead the Houston Aeros (7-3-2) past the San Antonio Dragons (4-6-2) 3-1 Friday at Freeman Coliseum. Wiseman's goals were his fourth and fifth of the season. Ken McRae brought the Aeros back from a 1-0 deficit with a power play goal late in the first period. San Antonio's lone goal was the first of the game, a power-play tally by Grigori Panteleyev 8:02 after the opening faceoff. Goalie Peter Skurda stopped 21 of 22 Dragons shots to help the Aeros to their third straight win. San Antonio's Scott Bailey finished with 20 saves on 23 chances.
Kansas City Blades 5, Chicago Wolves 0
KANSAS CITY--J.F. Quintin's two goal performance led the Kansas City Blades (5-6-0) to a decisive 5-0 win over the Chicago Wolves (6-4-1) Friday in front of 3,203 at Kemper Arena. Claudio Scremin and John Purves scored for the Blades in the first period. Quintin and Dean Sylvester made the score 4-0 in the second, and Quintin capped the rout at 15:51 of the third. Dale Craigwell and Jason Cirone picked up two assists each. The Wolves, who had won five of seven road games coming into Friday's contest, outshot the Blades 33-24, but couldn't get past goalie Jon Casey. Wendell Young stopped 19 of 24 in goal for the Wolves, who have lost their last three.
