Monday, Nov. 3, 1997 | 3:30 a.m.
ROSEMONT, Ill.--Power play goals by Doug Barrault and Jeff Bes brought the Chicago Wolves (8-4-1) back from a two-goal deficit and set the stage for a 4-3 shootout win over the Las Vegas Thunder (7-5-2) Sunday before 7,701 at the Rosemont Horizon. The Wolves prevailed 2-0 in the tiebreaker, getting goals from Steve Martins and Ravil Gusmanov. The Wolves trailed 3-1 midway through the final period. Barrault cut the Thunder's lead to a goal at 10:89, and Bes knotted the score with 5:13 to play. Chris Marinucci also scored for Chicago, in the second period. Jesse Belanger led the way for Las Vegas with a goal and an assist in regulation. The goal was his seventh in his last three games, an output that has moved him into a tie with teammate Ken Quinney and Detroit's Peter Ciavaglia for second place on the IHL scoring chart. Sergei Yerkovich scored his first of the season for the Thunder, and Joe Day picked up his seventh on a third-period power play. Winning goalie Wendell Young stifled a 37-shot Las Vegas attack with 34 saves. Tim Cheveldae stopped 18 of 21 for the Thunder.
