An evening of ‘Renaissance Jazz’

Monday, Nov. 3, 1997 | 11:29 a.m.

The group will present an evening of "Renaissance Jazz," defined as a blend of original jazz, Irish reels and melodies from centuries past. This unique sound, which was developed by group leader Rusty Sabella, has earned him international recognition as an improvisational jazz guitar, mandolin and mandocello virtuoso. He has also appeared on television and radio, including Garrison Keillor's "A Prairie Home Companion."

Accompanying Sabella are two new members of the Sabella Consort. Travis Ranney will play acoustic and electronic woodwinds, including saxophones, flutes and wind synthesizer. Keyboardist Gary Fukushima will add additional improvisational skills on piano and synthesizers.
