CARSON CITY -- A bill to change the name of Floyd Lamb State Park to Tule Springs will be voted on next week by the Assembly Committee on Natural Resources, Agriculture and Mining, but its chances don't appear good.
Assemblywoman Marcia de Braga, D-Fallon, chairwoman of the committee, said she will schedule a vote probably Monday on Assembly Bill 302. De Braga has polled the committee and says she has found little support.
But bill sponsor Assemblywoman Kathy Von Tobel, R-Las Vegas, complained that this informal polling violated the open meeting law. De Braga said Von Tobel's comment was "rotten."
Initially, de Braga did not intend to bring it to a vote but now she will.
Lamb, a former state senator who led the drive to acquire and improve the park for the state, was convicted of attempted extortion and served time in a federal prison for accepting $23,000 in bribes from an undercover FBI agent.
After his prison term, his civil rights were restored by the state Pardons Board.
Proponents of the measure told the committee earlier there was no disrespect meant to Lamb but felt the park should have the historical name of Tule Springs.
