Former Gaming Commission member Diehl dies at 74

John W. "Jack" Diehl, a former Nevada Gaming Commission member, died Wednesday at his home. He was 74.

Diehl was born June 9, 1922, in San Jose, Calif. He lived in Winnemucca before spending 47 years in Fallon. He received his law degree from the University of California Hastings School of Law.

Diehl was an attorney and partner in the firm of Diehl, Recanzone and Evans. He was past president of the Nevada Bar Association and a fellow with the American College of Trial Lawyers.

He also was a member of Churchill Lodge No. 26 F&AM.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth "Betty," in 1978.

Diehl is survived by his wife, Deanna, and a son, Jon Gregory, both of Fallon; a daughter, Deborah Diehl Elam of Portland, Ore.; three stepchildren, Meagan LaVoy and Erin Knowles of Reno and Bret Knowles of Fort Collins, Colo.; and six grandchildren.

Services are 1 p.m. Monday at the Parkside Bible Fellowship Church in Fallon, with burial at Fallon Cemetery.
