Culture Club will open new location
Friday, May 30, 1997 | 11:44 a.m.
This opening coincides with CAC's official grand-opening celebration at its new location.
"The Culture Club" is three nationally recognized ceramicists, Dean Adams, John deFazio and Anne Mulfor, who is also organizing this show. Reuniting after a residency at the Banff Center for the Arts in Alberta, the three artists continue to explore the Banff residency's theme of "Pop, Mass and Sub-cultures."
Mulford has availed herself of the kitsch object and her own ceramic history to develop a sensory language that is both female and lesbian. Adams also uses kitsch imagery to examine and attempt to redefine popular cultural attitudes toward male sexuality. DeFazio's work crosses over into many media and is constructed of imagery sampled from American pop culture.
Show organizer Anne Mulford, perhaps best known for her Bugle column, "An Audience With Princess Anne," received her MFA at UNLV and is AFAN's director of development. The Contemporary Arts Collective, a Las Vegas-based, artist-directed nonprofit organization, is dedicated to enrichment of Las Vegas' unique arts community.
Gallery hours are noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.
