TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Las Vegas Stars bullpen blew an early four-run lead Tuesday as the Tucson Toros pounced on reliever Chris Hook to post a 7-4 victory at Hi Corbett Field.
Stars starter Marino Castillo received four runs of support in the first two innings and responded with effective pitching. He allowed two runs -- one earned -- on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts, but was lifted after five innings.
The Toros then stuck Hook (0-6) for four runs in the sixth inning on three hits and two walks. He recorded just two outs.
Meanwhile, Tucson starter Jamie McAndrew (2-4) finished with four shutout innings. Al Reyes blanked the Stars with five strikeouts in three innings for his fourth save.
Las Vegas played without right fielder Stoney Briggs, who pulled a muscle during pre-game batting practice.
Also before the game, the parent San Diego Padres activated Ken Caminiti from the disabled list and optioned infielder Terry Shumpert to Las Vegas.
The Stars return to Las Vegas today for a four-game series against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox at Cashman Field.
Action begins tonight at 7:05 with the completion of a suspended game between the teams. Play will pick up in the bottom of the eighth inning with the Stars leading, 7-3. The regularly scheduled game will follow.
