Driver killed in Mesquite accident
Wednesday, May 28, 1997 | 10:48 a.m.
An 89-year-old driver was at fault for a two-car collision in Mesquite in which he died, the Nevada Highway Patrol has determined.
The Mesquite man had pulled out of a private driveway and was making a U-turn from north to south on Mesquite Boulevard, south of Desert Road, when the accident happened about 9:25 a.m. Tuesday, said Trooper Steve Harney.
Slade Faught, 25, of Mesquite was heading north along Mesquite Boulevard at the time when his 1982 Chevrolet pickup broadsided the elderly man's 1992 Oldsmobile. Harney said the elderly man was not wearing his seat belt and died instantly.
Faught, whom the NHP has determined was not at fault, was wearing his seat belt and suffered minor injuries.
Authorities have withheld the victim's name until relatives can be notified.
