"I came to Douglas with some friends because one of my friends was supposed to fight another guy from Douglas one on one or try to work things out," one Carson City youth told investigators.
But bats, clubs, pipes and rocks came out as more than 40 people started swinging to settle a dispute the Douglas County sheriff's office said started between one boy from Carson City and one from Douglas County who shared a mutual interest in the same girl.
Two young men and two juveniles were arrested following Friday night's fight in the upper Johnson Lane area, about four miles east of U.S. 395. James Goldberg, 39, and his son, Joshua Goldgerg, 19, both of Gardnerville, were treated for injuries and released.
"This was basically Carson versus Douglas," sheriff's Sgt. Jim Richardson told the Nevada Appeal. "It was something that has been brewing for two or three weeks at least."
About 10 patrol cars from Douglas County, Carson City and the Nevada Highway Patrol responded to the scene.
