Supreme Court rejects appeal on power plant

The Nevada Supreme Court refused to grant an emergency hearing requested by Boulder City voters who oppose the construction of a natural gas power plant 17 miles south of the city in Eldorado Valley.
More than 1,200 residents, citing environmental concerns, signed a petition to place the issue on the June 3 ballot as a referendum question. Many hoped that voters would then overturn the city's unanimous approval of the project.
City officials rejected the petition for technical reasons and a Clark County District Court judge seconded their decision last week. Residents' emergency appeal to the Supreme Court was a final effort to put the issue before voters.
