Slaying to end in plea bargain

A Las Vegas man has waived a preliminary hearing and is expected to plead guilty in District Court to a charge of voluntary manslaughter with use of a deadly weapon in the shooting death of his estranged wife's friend.
Paul Lyons, 32, had faced a charge of murder with the use of a deadly weapon in the April shooting at 1716 Pomerado Drive, near Vegas and Buffalo drives. He was scheduled for a preliminary hearing Monday but decided to accept a plea bargain with prosecutors instead.
The victim, 24-year-old Craig Moore of Las Vegas, had been staying at the home of Lyon's estranged wife for several days, police said. When Lyons came to the house to pick up some of his belongings, he entered a bedroom and found his wife and the victim. Police said he fired a handgun, striking the victim in the upper chest.
Lyons is scheduled to be arraigned in District Court May 27 before Judge Jeffrey Sobel. He faces a possible 20-year prison sentence on a voluntary manslaughter conviction.
