Letter: Mortenson jury should be proud of courageous work

Tuesday, May 20, 1997 | 11:59 a.m.

A few years ago in New Jersey, we had a similar situation. An on-duty officer shot a 16-year-old to death. The first autopsy was proven altered and the medical examiner fired. The second proved the child's hands were raised, when he was fatally shot. Even after all this, that officer was acquitted. He went on to claim psychological distress and was awarded 75 percent disability pay.

I'm also proud that Metro did not employ the blue-line thinking that was epidemic in New Jersey.

Kudos to Metro and the jury.

To the Mendoza family, my profound sympathy. May God help you continue without Daniel.
