Tuesday, May 20, 1997 | 11:59 a.m.
The vote Monday was 11-3 in favor of AB310, which has already passed a review by the Assembly Government Affairs Committee.
Voting "no" were John Marvel, R-Battle Mountain, Lynn Hettrick, R-Gardnerville, and Jack Close, R-Las Vegas.
State employee groups banded together this legislative session to support one collective bargaining measure.
City and county employees and teachers already have the right to bargain for salaries, benefits and working conditions.
The bill is the priority of organized labor this session, and is being backed by the Nevada AFL-CIO.
Passage of the bill is expected in the Assembly, where Democrats outnumber Republicans by a margin of 25-17.
The bill may have a tougher time in the Senate, however, where Republicans outnumber Democrats 12-9.
