Letter: Hold casinos taxes to same level as state sales levies

Friday, May 16, 1997 | 11:59 a.m.

Now they want to add 1/4 percent to our sales tax so there will be enough water for the quarter-million or so showers each weekend for the casino customers. In the meantime, the tax on casino profits remains the lowest in the nation.

So here's an idea in case anyone in Carson City is left with any courage at all:

Just peg the sales tax to the tax on casino profits. Bring their tax up to the 7 percent we're now paying and keep the two at the same rate from then on.

Then just watch our "public servants" jump through hoops to keep our sales tax low.

They'll never do it, of course. It's too fair.
