Las Vegas birthday celebration set
Friday, May 16, 1997 | 11:59 a.m.
Mormon missionaries pioneered a trail from the Salt Lake valley into Southern Nevada. They arrived on June 15, 1855, and began building an adobe fort. Parts of it still stand today, just west of Cashman Field.
Nearly 1,000 volunteers will gather at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel on the corner of Hollywood and Kell. Beginning at 7 a.m., they will remove debris from the Sunrise Mountain area.
At 8 a.m., volunteers will return to the chapel for breakfast. The awards ceremony will begin at 8:30.
