A tribute to Jimmy Cook
Friday, May 16, 1997 | 11:59 a.m.
Musicians will perform a memorial tribute to the late Jimmy Cook, starting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Carollo's Restaurant, Sunset and Eastern.
Cook was a highly regarded saxophonist and band leader in Las Vegas for years, with prior big-band experience with top names on tour.
First up will be Arno Marsh's Tenor Bag, featuring Marsh, Irv Gordon, Joe Romano and Bill Trujillo on tenors; Ron DiPhillips, piano; Don Stewart, bass; and Pat Sherrod, drums.
This will be followed by the Marv Koral All-Stars with Carl Fontana, trombone, Gus Mancuso, piano; Rudy Aikels, bass; and Santo Savino, drums.
The evening will close with an open session featuring the above-listed players plus others that were in Cook's big band and small groups through the years. The musicians are donating their services.
Admission is free, but a donation for Jimmy Cook's survivors is suggested.
