Charles May, 37, of Reno was jailed late Wednesday on charges of forgery and embezzlement. Police said eight checks totaling more than $12,000 were written to May on the account of Robert Whitmore. And they were written on or before May 5, the last time Whitmore was seen.
The search for Whitmore intensified over the weekend when blood was found at his home and his car turned up at the Reno airport. Searchers have been combing the Truckee River near his home, with no luck.
The charges against May involve only the checks and not Whitmore's disappearance.
