Letter: Are we teaching our children too much fear?
Thursday, May 15, 1997 | 11:59 a.m.
A few years ago, there was a craze for hugging all over the place. I'm so old, I have seen much, but I still think that moderation is a good thing to teach children.
If we teach them to dread strangers, how will they ever learn to trust anyone in later life when they go into the workplace? I think all this dread and fear we are teaching our children is wrong, and we should do something to soften it.
We should tell them that strangers are not all evil, that most are not, but when someone talks to them about going away with them, they should shout and run.
Oh well, I guess my generation made its share of mistakes and, for the first time in my adult life, I am not voting. It does no good.
