Tribal members said Lake Tahoe is part of their ancestral homeland, and they want the federal government to recognize their aboriginal rights to the lake.
Washoe Tribal Chairman Brian Wallace is serving on two steering committees helping to plan the summit scheduled for July 26 and 27. He met on Tuesday with members of a White House advance team that is touring the region to finalize summit details.
Wallace said the tribe hopes to secure guaranteed access to ancestral areas at the lake and establish a role in resource management.
